My Philosophy

  • Throughout my counseling program, I have always been drawn to Carl Rogers' Person-Centered theory. Hence, a lot of my sessions with students operate with this approach. One quality that I always like to demonstrate with everyone I encounter in the school-setting from administrators to families is genuineness. I believe that if I'm always real and honest with those I interact with, then they will eventually do the same in return.

  • Those I work with are the experts of their own lives. I give them the power in the sessions as I don't know everything that's going on with them. It's not my goal to force anything on them, but to provide them with choices. I'm there as their counselor to guide them toward a solution as I like to use solution-focused brief therapy.

  • It is my aim to make sure that the academic, career, and personal/social needs of all students of my school are met. However, these students' needs shouldn't be treated with an equal mindset but with an equity mindset. Some students may need extra attention and/or certain accommodations to reach the same level as other students his or her age. The goal is about meeting the student where he or she is.

"Create a positive atmosphere in your life and good things will happen."
